Why Some Cars Are More Fun to Drive Than Others

 

 

** Jag fick denna frågan av Jens Sverdrup som är ”Chief Commercial Officer at Czinger Vehicles Inc”, ja den MYCKET imponerande Czinger!

Han ställde frågan ”What makes a car fun to drive for you ? Imagine you have to explain it to an engineer in a detailed manner.
Like for example, what exactly is good steering?”

Det är en bra fråga med en oväntat svårt svar..

Handling / grip.
Connection to the road / good steering.
Good weight balance and light weight.
Stability in every way, braking, in high speeds, cornering, when you drift it etc.
Good seats and a good feeling steering wheel.
And hopefully a nice sounding engine / exhaust and a manual transmission, but that’s something we must learn to be without.

Pierre thanks. How do you explain good steering steering though ? Imagine you were explaining it to an engineer

I want it to feel ”tight” and light.
I love it wheen the steering can make a large car feel like a Miata.

There should never ever be any ”dead play” in the steering, it must be sterdy, tight, and the car should do directly as I want it to do when I move the steering wheel.

I prefere to feel everything from the road in the steering wheel instead of having a totally numb steering wheel (that’s for big luxury cars)

I want the steering wheel to tell me exactly what my wheels are doing, how my tires are (warm, cold, grippy, not grippy).

If a drive over a bug I want to be able to tell how many legs it had.
Allt that at the steering wheel.

That and a good seat can compansate for alot, like lack of power or sound.

And a ”numb” steering can make a powerful supercar boring to drive.

Many people prefere a light steering wheel / steering feeling so they can hold the wheel with just 2 fingers while driving fast.

I prefer a car that needs me to hold a firm grip over the steering at all times in all speeds.
And the steering wheel should never be to big.

** Jag säger det gång på gång.
De som tycker att en Miata eller GT86 är tråkig och långsam har bara inte kört bilen på rätt sätt, dvs fullt ut och på gränsen, gärna över gränsen också 😉
